Well honestly, nobody is going to see the output so you really don't need the echo stuff, although myself I will often times have c:appinstall.log as a parameter in my snapin config so that I can see the output if there is an issue. If the app is actually called what you have up in your comment then you can find the admin guide (It's a PDF). Page 61 (if going by what is printed on the page, 67 if by what your PDF reader says) has the flags for silent install. So, forget the SFX Maker, and just run their.exe with /qn. Thanks so much for your help. I had the user guide pulled up, and I have the instructions for the silent install, but I'm just not understanding the syntax or how I'm supposed to apply them.
I should also mention that I don't have access to the FOG server, I need to build the snap in and then email it to someone else who does - so I'm also not entirely sure of how FOG handles or deploys the snap ins. From your earlier post I tried to extract the setup.exe, but there were no.msi files inside of the installer. I was using SFX Maker because in addition to the setup.exe there are also a few other folders included with it that the.exe points to in order for it to function, so SFX Maker kind of bundles it all together into one file for me. I'm trying to write a.cmd file that will automatically run a script to apply the silent install flags for me once I start the.exe I made with SFX.I'm probably going about this all wrong.

Use PRTG to monitor LANs, servers, websites, applications and devices, bandwidth, virtual environments, remote systems, Io. T, and many more. PRTG is easy to set up & use. Excel is the most prevalent software used for data storage, analysis, and interpretation. Elementary and medium-quality mathematical and statistical functions are included with Excel. Good statistical analysis in Excel with more advanced methods than just frequency counts, however, requires an add-in package.
I started yesterday afternoon on this and I feel even more confused than when I first started. Don't over-complicate it (I'm guilty of this too).I think it's unusual that you're supposed to build a snapin for FOG when you've never used it and don't have access to it.
Maybe you should build a couple of VMs in VirtualBox and setup FOG on one.More complicated snapins (like java, which for MSI install requires a separate.cab file) I usually write a batch file. I created a new samba share on my FOG server called applications, and I'll put the.msi or the.exe on there along with the files that needed copied, and then I do something like this for my batch file: @echo offsetlocalpushd 10.128.2.10applicationsjavamkdir 'c:javatmp'copy Data1.cab 'c:javatmp'copy jre1.7.045.msi 'c:javatmp'c:cd javatmpmsiexec /i jre1.7.045.msi SO MANY FLAGS!!! REBOOT=ReallySupress /qndel. /Qcd.rmdir javatmpHere's what the config looks like for my batch file snapin:. So I was on their site, and the downloads I found were all.exe files. If what you have is an exe file then all you need to do is give it to the person who admins the FOG server and tell them to use that as their snapin file and then to have /qn as the Snapin Argument (similar to but instead of /q /norestart you'd just have /qn).If it is an MSI then the snapin config requires a bit more.Snapin Run With (this is the program the FOG client calls that will then run your snapin): c:windowssystem32msiexec.exeSnapin Run With Arguments: /iSnapin File: would be your.msiSnapin Arguments: /qnExample here:.
Oh my god, thank you so much. You are amazing. I was stressing so bad over this and was starting to feel like a complete moron. It sounds like I need to see if I can get access to the FOG server. Those screenshots clear everything up for me. There are a few.exe's and a few.msi's that I need to install, but from what I can tell 1.) I don't need to use SFX Maker to create silent installs, because I can add the switches into FOG and FOG will do it for me. 2.) I don't need to create a.cmd file or any sort of script for these to automatically run, because FOG will push them through and start them with no input needed from the client PC?
I just upload them, put in the appropriate switches or arguments, and once I deploy to X computers they will all have the applications and drivers they need?. I do my snapins a bunch of different ways.
If the vendor offers a silent installation option I'll just run their.exe as my snapin, and add the flags in the snapin config for silent install. A lot of times the.exe just contains their.msi file, so you can extract that with 7zip and set msiexec to run as your snapin with that.msi file and then specify your silent flags. (like you have specified in your post) Third option is to use something like where you run their snapshot utility, install your software, and then run it again and it will create a package of the changes.
Fourth is to make a batch file for the snapin and then have it call your.exe or.msi from elsewhere.Snapins will usually run silently, in the background, if properly configured. I'd recommend pushing the snapin to a test machine (and being logged into it) and making sure that SFXmaker doesn't pop up in the foreground. I've seen it happen before.I will say that you do not at all have to use SFX Maker, in fact I think I may have only one snapin using it. If the software has some documentation, check if there's a section for installing through a Group Policy, usually you can find necessary flags for silent installation there.
